COLT 1861 MARTIAL NAVY RARE WITH FACTORY LETTER
Item ID #1988
These were manufactured from 1861 to 1873. A total of only 38,843 were produced, 28,000 during the Civil War. Barrels are 7 1/2" long. Caliber is .36. Bore is pretty good. It is shiny with good lands and grooves. It will rate six on a one to ten scale. Barrel address is complete. All numbers match. Action is smooth and tight. It works perfectly. Grips are excellent, fit is perfect, and some original varnish remains. The metal is smooth with some original blue and case color remaining. Several hundred of these were sold to the Army and the Navy during the Civil War. Many have no inspector markings. You will notice ENGAGED 16 MAY 1843 is still on the cylinder. Cylinder scene is just about complete and better than most you will see. I do have an original Colt letter which confirms this pistol is a martial Navy. It shipped along with 99 others to the U.S. Government, Lt. Col. G.D. Ramsey , Washington Arsenal, Washington D.C. on October 14, 1861. You will like this hard to find pistol. It will make a great addition to any collection.
