Mr. Bean enlisted 10/15/1861 as a 2nd lieutenant. He commissioned into I Co. NH 5th Infantry, was promoted to 1st Lt. 7/31/1862, Captain 12/16/1862. Captain Bean was wounded at the Battle of Fredericksburg, Va. 13th December 1862.
I have a lot more information on Captain Bean. It will be included with the watch. It is mostly military and pension records. I believe you will find the information very interesting.
The watch was presented to John Bean in recognition of his promotion to Captain. It is a Waltham. There is stamp which states coin silver and is numbered. It is also stamped warranted. I have not wound it and do not know if it operates properly. The inscription is very well done and easy to see. Thanks for looking.
